Matthew Macfadyen cast in Follett Mini Series 'Pillars'

Matthew Macfadyen will star alongside Rufus Sewell and Donald Sutherland in Ken Follett's 'The Pillars of the Earth', according to the Hollywood Reporter . Details in the link.
Matthew will play the role of Prior Philip. Shooting will commence on June 22 in Hungary and Austria. Premiere is set for the second half of 2010.
The series is partially produced by Ridley Scott and his brother Tony. Ridley is currently directing and producing Robin Hood, which Matthew is also currently working in as the Sheriff of Nottingham due out next year!

Update: June 22, 09 - The Official Websight for The Pillars of the Earth series is up and running and being updated weekly. Pictures of the set as well as information about the production are included. Thanks to the production companies Tandem, Muse and Scott Free and thanks Scrappydew for alerting us on the forum.

This is Great news Kathy. I just checked my emails and there was my notice about Matthew doing "Pillars".Working with Sarah Parrish again and Donald Suthurland. And I love Rufus Sewell.This will be a "must see". Thanks for the info. |

Sorry Kathy, It was Keeley who did Shakespeare Retold with Sarah.She was also in Harry Potter and was the Empress in Dr. Who 2006 I thought I remembered her working with him early on but was mistaken. |

I just remember that Matthew will be in Wales on June 15 and if this series will commence on June 22 (that's a week away from that date), so then he will be traveling back and forth, right!

This is amazing news! Matthew works twice with Ridley Scott!! That is huge, and to do a Follett novel. Really great.
The book was excellent - as most Follett novels are - but it has been some 10 or more years since I read it, so I can't recall the character. Might have to tackle it again between now and then. Go Matthew! And thanks Kathy for keeping us fans up to the minute.:) |
