Matthew Macfadyen News

The BBC Press Office announces today at the Broadcast Press Guild in London that Matthew Macfadyen has been cast as the lead role in the drama 'Ripper Street', set in the time of Jack the Ripper. Matthew will play the lead detective in charge and the setting is after the perpetrated crimes committed in the late 1880's.

(I don't know about you, but I'm glad 2011 is in the can for many reasons)! ...and if I may, let us hope we see a better 2012 for Matthew also because it wasn't exactly the best for a fan in terms work and projects but one thing: the fact that he is working with a most prolific director again made up for it, IMO. 2012 will tell us. 2012 bring it! Sporting some very wooly facial hair for his upcoming role as the Russian Oblonsky in the classic Tolstoy novel, Anna Karenina, and directed by the incomprable Joe Wright, Matthew Macfadyen has been spotted out and about in between shooting scenes for the film around Londontown recently.

He and wife Keeley Hawes gave a talk to the students at Hampton School for Boys to the drama department as part of their ongoing lecture series Talk! Here

Next, they attended the opening gala for The English National Ballet's production of The Nutcracker. Here

It's a treat to see his chameleon-like good looks out and about publicly and enjoying the holiday season in London with his family and friends. While it may be hard to spot him sometimes, those deep blues are a sure give away for fans the world over!
