By Alex Fredman A BLUES' musican has turned down a prestigious gig in Italy with ex-Dire Straits band members to play at a charity night in aid of Whitby Lifeboat.

His multi-platinum years as an MTV mainstay are now long behind him, but Mark Knopfler still keeps up an impressive pace in his fourth decade of touring and recording.

Mark Knopfler is one of rock's greatest storytellers.
