The leap from shit to utter satisfaction is one that, in musical terms, often takes years upon years of practice.
Somewhere along their path, the infamous shifting of sound and style left many of us...well, this has all been said before, I've frankly heard enough of it so why add to the pile? Where Load was unexpected but still not a terrible record, Reload was both expected and terrible.
What happened to Metallica? If this wasn't loudly proclaimed when Load was finally given to the masses after a lengthy hiatus of new material, then I suppose everyone was comfortable with one of the 80's most prominent, dominant, innovating metal bands stripping back, toning down, etc.
