Esperanza Spalding carried herself like a worldbeater at Central Park SummerStage on Sunday afternoon, and resistance was largely futile.

Ledisi has been on a slow climb to the top of R&B consciousness. Those who are tuned into the smooth jazz/R&B circuit have certainly heard her song "Alright" from her album "Lost and Found," but Ledisi has actually been working the circuit much longer.

Tickets are now on sale for what promises to be one of the most eclectic and exciting seasons in the 33-year history of the Mann Center for the Performing Arts.

Her star is ascendant, she has music industry big-wigs in her corner and she likes to go by one name, a Nigerian word meaning "to bring forth." Her latest calling cards are two albums, "Lost and Found," nominated for a best R&B album Grammy in 2007, and "It's Christmas," a holiday album of originals and notable remakes of familiar tunes.

For the past 18 months Ledisi has been reaping a glorious harvest, traveling the world to deliver her singular blend of infectiously grooving R&B, gospel and audacious jazz improvisation.

On June 26-28, 2009 the 42nd annual Hampton Jazz Festival will return to the Hampton Coliseum for yet another soulful weekend of unforgettable entertainment.
