Panic at the Disco's new CD is 'Pretty. Odd.'

“I am the king of everything, I am the king of nothing”

Who says punctuation isn't important? When last we saw Panic! At the Disco, they were all about hyper-literate emo, circus imagery, guyliner, closing doors and that ever-crucial exclamation point. via Newsday.com

To compare this sophmore album from Panic to the Beatles is a travesty. With the same instrumentation (though it is a wide and eclectic one indeed) in every song this album is undoubtedly the musical equivalent of oatmeal. it's true that nothing of the original Panic! remains in this release but that is nothing close to being a good thing for the die hard fans of the band that took the pop-punk genre by storm with their hard-driving techno hooks and witty lyrics full of irony and satire. Speaking of lyrics read this passage from one of the songs:

Clouds are marching along, singing a song, just like they do.
If the clouds were singing a song, I'd sing along, wouldn't you too?
If you just knew what they could do.
Oh, if you just knew, what would they do?
And if the birds are just all the words flying along, singing a song,
What would they do?
If they just knew what they could do.
Oh, if they just knew.

Come on. A three year old with a developmental disorder could write those lyrics.

I think that name change for the band describes this album just about as well as possible. As for me I give this album a -!

i frankly thought the new album was them trying to be the beatles. they failed miserably.

it might have been a smash 40 something years ago.
but its been done.
john lennon and disney channel agree. and they should know. because it sounds like panic ripped them off.

amen brotha.
personallly i could have given my dog a pencil and a recording studio and we could have a cathier, mor clever, and overall better cd than that.
nothing was memorable, at least not in a good way --it was all one big blur of acoustic guitar with sappy choruses about plants and love and little woodland creatures.

Are the jabs necessary? I doubt it. They wanted to change their music style. I think they did a good job. I didn't like it at first... but as I've been listening to it in my car, I'm just getting more and more into it.
I think that it's a great idea to change the idea and sound of every one of your albums; Have your fans wondering what they're going to hear next. Very cool idea.
