Sasha Frere-Jones: Kylie Minoguea s first North American tour.

Full story: New Yorker

Why, twenty-two years after her first hit single, "The Loco-Motion," is the Australian singer Kylie Minogue only now embarking on her first North American tour? In most of the world, Minogue is as big as a pop star can get.

The nativist New Yorker has the best writing in greys and pastels for the Eastern mindset. Ms. Frere Jones reflects Kylie's lean petite style. One phrase stands out: 40 million records. Most sources cite Kylie with 60 to 70 million records sold. The New Yorker is still employing the fact checker who narrated BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY. The fact checker is doing much better now. He saw "Locomotion" in the late 1980s, had an epiphany and cleaned up. He just uses conservative numbers is all. Get ready New York, the Queen of the post-Brat Pack era is in town.

Love the New Order.

I heard the Queen of the post-Brat Pack era is Kylie, and an east coast smart woman who won a chess match in three or four moves. Charm of the south and efficiency of the north? And she probably knew she won before she even made the moves! With timing like a dancer. And then gracefully walked away with the prize. We are in awe! All this time, we have never seen anything like it. We're like watching the replays saying, "1-2-3-4--- I can't believe it"!!! Later Gators!
BTW Air Canada Centre Rocked! Plus Kylie in a white cutaway gown with rose petals floating down all around for her ballads was so gorgeous. Enjoy New York!

I heard that the New York shows have been fantastic. Some friends were next to an older German man who sang along with all the songs loudly with a thick accent. Speakerphone was a special challenge for the man and those within earshot. In between songs he would holler sweet things like, "Kylie! You're the heart! I'm the arrow!" That's true. Thankfully he didn't add "Let me shoot you" or an orchestrated mosh pit would have been directed toward him. Those Kylie fans don't take any chances with their jewel in the crown.
