New DVDs explore the teen scene
The once-promising filmmaker John Singleton has been on a steady decline since his breakthrough directorial debut "Boyz n the Hood." His latest work, the Taylor Lautner vehicle "Abduction," does nothing to slow his downhill slide.
Abduction is a bad, bad movie. Taylor Lautner is not a good actor. John Singleton hasn't made a watchable movie since Boyz n the Hood , and that was 20 years ago! This supposed action movie has hardly any actual action, and the plot is ridiculous even for this type of brainless flick.
Someone decided Taylor Lautner, fresh from chasing Bella Swan in Twilight , needed to become an action star.

In 1991, John Singleton was nominated for Academy Awards for both Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for his debut feature Boyz n the Hood . Twenty-four at the time, Singleton remains the youngest individual to be nominated for direction.
Trying to build on his stardom as the lupine Jacob in the "Twilight" movies, Taylor Lautner is mildly successful in this melodrama from director John Singleton about a young man who goes on the lam with a friend when he finds he was kidnapped as a youngster.
