Joan Osborne headlines Eccles Center Oct. 25. Soul singer Joan Osbourne, gospel legends The Holmes Brothers and rootsy rocker Paul Thorn don't share the same genre, but they are sharing the same tour bus.

Joan Osborne performs Sunday night at the Golden State Theatre in Monterey. The Holmes Brothers and Paul Thorn will open the show.

A lot has changed since Joan Osborne imagined God as an everyday person in her 1995 hit, "One of Us." The 47-year-old rock singer with roots in blues, gospel and soul appeared in the 2002 documentary "Standing in the Shadows of Motown," released six more albums, toured with the Dixie Chicks, sung with the Grateful Dead and became a mom.

Cliff Richard sold out in 30 minutes, Rod Stewart tickets went just as quickly and Eric Clapton sold out in four hours but Motown is proving not quite so tempting.

" If God were one of us, he would probably be at Friday's concert. Grammy-nominated multi-platinum artist Joan Osborne graces the Sunset Plaza stage Friday night, with a 5 p.m.-start time.

She may seem the odd-woman out on a touring soul revue but Joan Osborne has paid her dues.

The outing, which concentrates on the South and East Coast, finishes up Aug. 28 in Atlanta.

It's an annual rite of spring in the Rochester region. The Lilac Festival at Highland Park May 8 to 17 kicks off a season of outdoor festivals.
