I find it almost impossible to watch the original, 1937 version of A Star Is Born without constantly comparing and contrasting it to its superior 1954 remake, directed by George Cukor and starring Judy Garland and James Mason and, to a much lesser extent, the mostly terrible 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
