Actor Denis Lawson has joined the cast of BBC One's hit cold case detective series New Tricks as a new member of Detective Superintendent Sandra Pullman's team.

Denis Lawson is joining the cast of New Tricks to take the place of James Bolam who announced he was leaving at the end of the last series.

Ewan McGregor has said it was a "really special" experience to act with his uncle for the first time as they appeared at the European premiere of the film they both star in.
