Sacramento's DEFTONES has issued the following update: "On November 2nd, 2008 our bass player and brother Chi Ling Cheng was involved in a horrific car accident which has left him in a semi-conscious state.

Deftones have decided to scrap their new album. Titled Eros, the album was a group of songs that featured currently hospitalized bass player Chi Cheng who was in a severe car accident.

Though Cheng's condition allowed him to be moved from the hospital's critical care unit to a brain-rehabilitation hospital in December, the band said it feels as if it's "no closer to knowing what is ultimately going to happen to him." In recent months, Cheng has been in and out of the hospital.

Here's the update from the band: "First and foremost, we are all still praying and hoping for our brother's and bandmate's recovery.

Deftones have headed back into the studio to re-record the much delayed forthcoming new album 'Eros' . The album had already been recorded with bassist Chi Cheng before he was involved in a car accident last November which put him in coma.
