A gangling song-and-dance man with extensive TV and stage credits, Carpenter also made his brief mark in a handful of MGM musicals which embodied the small-town vision of the USA so prevalent in the 1950s.

Hollywood memorabilia in a legal mess

Here's a poser for you movie buffs: What do the white dress worn by Marilyn Monroe in "The Seven Year Itch" and the fur coat, muff and hat worn by Orson Welles in "Citizen Kane" have in common? Beyond their obvious status as movie artifacts, they're both part of a lawsuit filed in Johnson County by a 40-year-old Olathe, Kan., businessman, Gregory ...

the Singing Fun at Carlyle

DEBBIE Reynolds. The very name makes you think of the fresh-faced ingenue who stole your heart in "Singin' in the Rain." Or perhaps the innocent "Singing Nun" or "The Unsinkable Molly Brown." What you don't imagine is the saucy, bawdy comedian currently holding court at the decorous Cafe Carlyle.
