Ashford & Simpson perform at the Rhythm and Blues by the Brook concert in Cedar Brook Park in Plainfield on June 6. The annual daylong concert is presented by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

For the record, when Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson penned Ray Charles' "Let's Go Get Stoned'' in 1966, which subsequently became their songwriting breakthough, they weren't exactly talking about getting high.

In an effort to foster community and give back to city residents, the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, along with Amaker and Porterfield Medical Transportation, hosted the 10th Annual Rhythm and Blues by the Brook Festival.

A legendary rhythm and blues duo and a pioneer rapper will headline the 10th annual Rhythm & Blues By the Brook, the free outdoor music festival sponsored by the Union County Freeholders and held in the city's Cedar Brook Park.

Ashford & Simpson wrote hit songs like "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing" and "Reach Out and Touch " but they're probably best known for singing their 1985 hit song "Solid."
