Vietnam, India to open direct air services

Vietnam and India will open direct flights between the two countries this November as part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Vietnam Airlines and India's Jet Airways in Hanoi on Monday. The MoU was signed by representatives from the two airlines in the presence of President Truong Tan Sang and his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee during a four-day official visit to Vietnam that began Sunday.

Vietnam, US restart adoptions after six-year ban

American parents will be allowed to adopt Vietnamese children again, authorities said Tuesday, ending a six-year ban imposed after allegations of baby-selling and fraud but with new restrictions. Two American agencies have been awarded licences but new US adoptions will be limited to children over the age of five, sibling groups and those with special needs, the US State Department said.

Typhoon Kalmaegi predicted to hit northern Vietnam

Typhoon Kalmaegi, the third tropical storm to hit this year, is predicted to make landfall in northern Vietnam early Wednesday morning at the latest, according to the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecast. Hoang Duc Cuong, the center's director, said that after slamming into the Philippines and killing 10, the typhoon was around 380km northeast of Vietnam's Hoang Sa Islands at 4pm on Monday, spitting strong winds of up to 149kph.

Vietnam index closes down 0.3 pct, eye funds' review

Vietnam's benchmark VN Index ended down 0.34 percent on Monday as selling increased near the session's end while investors looked at the portfolio restructuring of two exchange-traded funds' . Hanoi-based lender Vietcombank led the losses with a 2.46 percent fall, followed by property firm Vingroup that declined 1.8 percent.
