Why Microsoft is basically stealing Minecraft by buying it for only $2.5 billion

Some might wonder why Microsoft would pay $2.5 billion for a game with low-res graphics and no real plot-line - but the reality is that Minecraft is far more of an open platform for creativity than it is a simple game, and is likely worth much more than $2.5B So the much-rumored acquisition of Minecraft has finally come to pass , with Microsoft buying the game's parent company Mojang for $2.5 billion, and no doubt many people unfamiliar with the game are wondering whether the software giant has lost its collective mind.

Who Cares If PS4 And Xbox One Are Out Of Date?

Recently, Forbes contributor John Archer raised something of an Internet firestorm by pointing out something that's been common knowledge for a little while now: neither Sony's PS4 nor Microsoft's Xbox One are even close to the most powerful gaming machines on the market. Despite all the hoopla surrounding the term "next-gen," both machines will struggle to keep pace with modern display technology.

Destiny review - 'a sideways step from pervasive future war militarism'

If there's a real magic to Destiny, it's in how the post-apocalyptic setting makes the familiar backyard of our solar system as disturbing and mysterious far-flung or fictional corner of the universe. For a game characterised by belligerent scale in everything from the size of its budget publisher Activision has described the series as a $500m investment to the extraordinary sweep of its environments, there's something refreshingly parochial, and imaginatively compelling, about this self-imposed limitation.

Video gaming: Destiny is so much like Halo it almost feels strange

During the Destiny Alpha, my major take away from the experience was that the game felt very similar to the franchise that arguably made Bungie and built the Xbox brand - Halo. After spending about six hours with Destiny over the last few days, I've concluded that it's so much like Halo that at times it feels a little weird.

Freeware Pick: Troubled Football

Described as FIFA 99 meets QWOP meets Call of Duty Modern Warfare meets Need for Speed, Troubled Football by the Kayabros is reassuringly silly. And almost playable too; a fact that can actually lead to some good footie-esque times now that the World Cup is safely over and everyone needs to do athletic stuff with their mouse in front of their PC screen.
