Venture Capital Industry Could Be A 'Victim' Of AMT
The National Venture Capital Association is fighting a tax overhaul that, as proposed, could deal a harsh blow to their business model.
Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., last month proposed a tax overhaul bill that, among other things, would eliminate a tax law dating to 1969, called the Alternative Minimum Tax. The tax was intended to prevent the super wealthy from using loopholes and other maneuvers to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. The problem is that it was not inflation-adjusted. Over the years, growing numbers of middle-class citizens have been hit by the AMT. This year, the number of taxpayers included in the AMT provision will skyrocket to 23 million, from 3.5 million, unless Congress acts. Congress is expected to take some action, though a permanent solution might not yet be in the cards. Read more
