Man critically injured in trench collapse

An unidentified Brillion man was in critical condition Monday at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay after he was pulled from a collapsed sewer trench, Fire Department Deputy Chief Gregg Kadow said. Firefighters found the man, who was replacing a sanitary sewer trench when it collapsed, completely covered with dirt when they arrived. He was not breathing, but he had a pulse, and emergency crews performed resuscitation on him.

He was in the trench for about 15 minutes before he was extricated, said Kadow, who declined to release the man's name until his family was notified of the accident.
