Obama White House deporting fewer illegal immigrants than budget allows

Bush's end-of-term surge, raising questions about whether he is skirting the law with his claim of prosecutorial discretion. Administration officials have told Congress repeatedly that their budget gives them the resources to deport about 400,000 illegal immigrants a year, but numbers reported by The Associated Press last week suggested they were on pace to deport about 320,000 this year.

Average El Paso Border Patrol agent apprehended 4.2 undocumented immigrants in 2013

The average Border Patrol agent in El Paso apprehended 4.2 undocumented immigrants in 2013, according to a presentation made to lawmakers last week by two experts who study the border. Since the 1990s, federal appropriations for the Border Patrol have skyrocketed and apprehensions have plummeted, indicating that it would be unproductive to spend additional dollars on the agency, Erik Lee of the North America Research Partnership and Christopher Wilson of the Wilson Center's Mexico Institute on Thursday told a special committee examining wait times on the U.S.-Mexico Border.
