No Good Deed Goes Unpunished As PG&E Seeks Higher Rates for Frugal Customers

Full story: snafu-ed.blogspot.com

Energy-sipping customers of PG&E may face higher rates, if the California utility has its way. One might think it would be good if people cut down on their energy usage, but PG&E apparently doesn't agree.

This is just the beginning, and you can't blame the power company. Too many people, especially Liberals, don't understand economics.

There is a base cost of operations for any and every thing. When consumption rises, the price per item gets cheaper.

For instance, if you go to a screenprinter - a maker of custom printed t-shirts - and want 1 custom shirt with 4 different colors on it, that shirt could cost over $100 dollars. But for $150 you can probably get 24 of the same shirt.

Less is often costs more, and vice versa.

The laws and regulations set forth by the government allow them to do this. They probably need to get regulatory approval to do this. I know in the health insurance industry, they need the permission of the government insurance commission to raise or lower prices. This is another example of corporatism made possible by government laws and regulations that protect PG&E.

Its the liberals who have taxed(penalized) the hard working and successful for decades and then lavished scads of taxpayer money on the lazy, shiftless, irresponsible with one social program after another.

The energy company here wants to raise rates to off set the "green" mandates. It seems windmills are pretty exspensive, and pretty much useless, so, they need more money to cover the cost. Can you think of any other business that could do this?

the same thing happened in north carolina 2 or 3 years ago...the citizens were STRONLY urged to conserve, they did, and the revenues for the utilities nose dived, so rates went up...

That's what conservation is all about, especially if it comes from the power company. It drives down their quarterly profits so they can raise prices.

The poorest people keep their bills the lowest now the power company desires a legally approved method of stealing from them and then taking that exact same amount of money and crediting the accounts of those who use the most electricity.

Those who use the most electricity are business' and industry.

They already get a huge discount because of that classification.

Steal from the poor and give to the rich.

That is not a free market.

They don't pay mine and I'm one of the poorest people.

No credits, no subsidies, I pay the same as everyone else who is residential customer.

Raising prices on those with the lowest bills and giving that same amount of money to those who have the highest bills is stealing.

Plus those highest users already pay a fraction of what a residential customer pays.

In a few months I suppose they will be getting electricity for free since how low can you drive down the fee for electricity for those who use the most of it?

The poorest people are in this subsidizing the biggest users.

If you want socialism it has to be the other way around.

They would if you applied for the money. That is your choice and I have nothing against your decision. But don't pretend that the poorest people have to pay for their electricity.

No. I don't qualify for any subsidies.

That could be because around here the utilities are not regulated therefore there are no utility breaks for the poorest, the disable or the elderly as you will find in regulated areas.

In regulated ares there are breaks for them, at least in the winner time that is for electrical or gas customers, depending on which is used for heating.

For that matter, even government dispensed commodities are only given out one day per year around here.

Then you are not among the poorest. All electric utilities in the US are regulated. What is the name of your electricity supplier?
