GAO Bomb Sting Finds Lapses at Buildings Guarded by Federal Protective Service

Full story: www.washingtonpost.com

Take your shoes off, no sippy cups for the infants, no sharp objects but knitting needles are OK.
We're paying $2 billion per year ($50.5 billion for Homeland Security FY2009 overall) for these jokers.

No he only gets the blame for signing it - you Republican hacks get the blame for coming up with it. You get the blame for denying it. Delusion so becomes you.

Well, uh, lemme see, these people aren't strangers, I'm sure they flashed credentials to get in or may even have carte blanche to ease through security.

Getting in with the goods is not good enough, they have to assemble the triggerable devices and then walk around with them.

Isn't this type of bomb making illegal?

Did they have a warrant to do this?

If not why are they not being busted by the ATF and the DHS for violating Federal Laws?

Is Congress going to investigate this threat?

What about the safety of those in the building?

What were the risks of those bombs going off?

A very high risk in the event that these people who did this are not munitions/explosives experts.

Had one of these bombs gone off, in order to prevent exposure and embarrassment, it would have been covered up as a terrorists attack right? Most likely.

So, out of all the wackos and psychos and radicals, extremists, wanna be bombers, hate groups, terrorists home grown and domestic, WHO IS SNEAKING INTO HIGH SECURITY FEDERAL BUILDINGS WITH EXPLOSIVES AND ASSEMBLING LIVE BOMBS?

The Government Accountability Office of the United States of America.

Who needs al-Qaeda to penetrate US security and put us at risk of explosives and live bombs when we have the GAO?

The idea of doing this type of exercise has been around for a long time.

For further study, look up a Naval unit,op-06d. Cmdr(ret.) Richard Marcinko formed this unit, nick named it "Red Cell",and used it to test U.S. Naval security. The results were not very good for the security dept.

Marcinko made enough enemies that it eventually landed him in prison.

"These demonstrations showed that the replacement of Marines as security by private security agencies started by retired military personnel and awarded contracts resulted in a vulnerable military."

Since everyone in the country seems to be tested to death, from teachers, to cops to firemen, to hairdressers, to insure that the only the most qualified are licensed, I can't understand why this same criteria is not used to hire competent guards.

OOPS! I forgot they work for the Federal Government. Do I hear anyone whispering "patronage?"

No.

They work for private security contractors but it looks like the only thing the contractor is securing is a cash flow.

Only the most able to pass a test - pass the test - that doesn't necessarily imply anymore knowledge than how to pass the test. Your thought for the day. What qualifications would you require for guards for our nation's capitol? Being able to pass a test - or years of experience they were being paid for to protect our most precious assets? You get what you pay for and who you are paid by.

There used to be a thing called "work ethic",seems it no longer exists. Some think they should get paid just for showing up.There's no more pride in a job well done,or performing to the best of your ability. Our society is in real trouble.
