King slams fellow Republicans amid Fossella scandal

Long Island congressman Peter King slammed fellow Republicans for "posturing" by pressuring his close friend Rep. Vito Fossella about resigning amid revelations of Fossella's drunken-driving arrest and secret love child. "To me, it's putting a knife in the back of a good guy who's made a mistake," said King (R-Seaford).

Pete, the Republicans wasted their opprtunity, and will not get the majority back for two decades. One Republican more or less will not matter after November.

Why is everybody so worried about his cheating and not the fact that he was driving drunk? Of course, the typical Republican hypocrisy of legislating family values without living them makes a good story, and I'm sure he hurt his family. But that is his private life. DUI is illegal and creates a public danger that we should not overlook in favor of the sensationalism of a 'love child.'

BULL!!!! King is suggesting that our politicians should be pussyfooting around Vito because he happens to be in the same political party. I believe different - Fossella (and all our politicians for that matter) serves the American people, NOT the Republican party....AND he has failed us. King's support just goes to show that his allegiances are misplaced!

What difference does it make what he decides to do. Other republicans have said they are going to resign only to stay in office.

If your spouse cannot trust you, your constituents cannot either. Besides, it seems Fossella not only had a child during an affair, but that the affair is continuing.

To the people in Fossella's district; he's obviously after the power and prestige that comes w/Congress more so than representing you. He's a drunk and a cheat, and you're no better if he gets re-elected.

IRA terrorist supporter Peter King is just as big of a despicable windbag as his "friend" is. They should both resign.

Got to love these Republicans.

If a Democrat commits adultery, then call for resignation.

If a Republican commits adultery (and the crime of drunk driving) it's "oh he made a mistake."

Sickening.

Don't resign. He's the kind of dedicated conservative we must keep in Washington. He's handled his affair like a man, unlike Bill Clinton. These democrats and left wing republicans will stoop to any sordid depth and say every nasty thing to gain back control of congress.

ahh yes Mr Family values has some family values there. Drives drunk, has a 3 year old love child whom his rich daddy & uncle help pay off. Yet another example of your typical lets force our family values down your throat, but not live by them right wing Republican.

As far as King goes, well this is just example #637,292,183,091 of hypocrite in chief.

Oh course King is a hypocrite. Does anyone really expect anything less from him?
King was one of the first bleating for Spitzer to resign. Now with Fossella, it's all about how terrible this is for Vito.
And King didn't know about Vito's girlfriend? I call BS on that too.
Time to send King back to Seaford.

Good for the republicans for pressuring Fossella to resign. He has broken the law and he needs to go. I just don't understand why they did not pressure Paterson to resign as well.

Of course Mr. Fossella is sorry he was caught, but not that he had broken the law by drinking and then risking others' lives by driving. Contrary to his pr, the man is thinking of how this sscandal will aaffect him politically--that's his bread and butter. To call his mistress to spring him from jail is a measure of his poor judgment or intake of wine. Honestly, Staten Island, don't waste your tears on Vito--you can do better!

The hypocrisy of Fossella's bitter condemnation of Clinton over the Lewinski scandal notwithstanding, does the 'Honourable' Pete King understand that drunk driving is not just a mistake?

Drunk driving is a breathalyzer test away from Murder. Fossella should be on his knees giving thanks to God that he was arrested before he killed someone, and I'm appalled that neither he, nor Congressman King understand this.

Congressmen Fosselal and King should take some time out of their busy schedules and visit the parents of 7-year old Katie Flynn, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2006. Explain to these parents how the death of their child was just a 'mistake'.

The job of leaders is to demand that bad actors like Vito step down. Peter King had no problem making those demands of Clinton, Spitzer, et al. Vito is a disgrace--8 beers in 2 hours, a long term affair, lies galore and now questions about how and why the family paid the mistress. Vito and Peter--take a hike into the real world.

The GOP was going to lose the seat in 2012 redistricting anyway.
