Words About Shapes: Before The Flood

Razvan Cocis' movement and touch have allowed the Fire to keep the ball much more effectively in the last few games - is it form or quality? - Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports The Fire must keep the ball, play the angles to compete against a New England shape that thrives on overload There was a time in preseason - as preserved in the now-disproved tactical previews - when the Fire flirted with playing a compact, fluid 4-1-4-1 shape, compressing space, pressing high; a swashbucking, confident style. I wrote then, "The 2013 New England Revolution under Jay Heaps played the 4-1-4-1 well, and stand as a handy comparison."

Donovan Shouldn't have the Record for Most Assists in MLS History

Landon Donovan is six assists away from tying Steve Ralston's record for most assists in MLS history and while the US national team star deserves all of our respect he doesn't deserve that title.
