Wirral jobs at risk as Phones4u falls into administration

The company, which operates 550 standalone stores across the UK, including in Birkenhead and Wallasey, faces an uncertain future after network operator EE joined Vodafone in cutting ties with the retailer. Phones 4u said the decision by EE not to renew its current contract, which is due to end in September next year, was a "complete shock" and meant it would be left without a single network partner after Vodafone said earlier this month that it would not extend its agreement.

Wallasey Town Hall: Council says Field Road car park is surplus to its requirements

PLANS to scrap a community car park to make way for a possible housing development have been met with furious opposition from nearby residents. More than 570 people have signed a protest petition against local authority moves which could see the car park in Field Road, New Brighton, being declared surplus to requirements.

Fight to save Lyndale continues as opposition councillors call on cabinet to think again

OPPOSITION councillors are continuing their fight to save a Wirral special needs school from closure as they call on town hall chiefs to rethink what they call the "fundamentally wrong" decision. Heartache, anger and a sense of betrayal were felt by parents and staff at the Lyndale School after Wirral Council ruled it was in the childrens' best interests to close it down.

Peter Grant: 'Lyndale meeting took place at Wallasey Town Hall after parents and children shuffled up the expensive new stair carpets' Infuriatingly, MPs and councillors now explain their actions to the public in politico-speak as if they have been to night school in Evasion Studies - saying something without, er, actually saying anything. I was worried about this issue while awaiting the outcome of Eastham's Lyndale School's destiny.

Saltire flies above Wallasey Town Hall

Wirral councillors have temporarily set aside political allegiances and joined forces to support the Better Together campaign to fly the Saltire from the flagstaff at Wallasey Town Hall. Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrat groups will raise the blue and white flag of Scotland ahead of the September 18 referendum, when voters north of the border will decide if they support the idea of an independent Scotland.

Original plans to re-build St John Bosco Arts College in Croxteth were scrapped when the Building Schools for the Future scheme was dropped in 2010. Liverpool City Council then agreed to invest in the school as part of an A 169m scheme to rebuild 12 schools in the city and invest in several others.

Heartbreak as cabinet votes unanimously to close Lyndale

Parents and pupils had hoped for a miracle when they arrived at Wallasey town hall but it was not to be, with their worst nightmares now coming true. They had spent close to two hours listening to parents, directors and independent consultants, as well as watching a video made by South Wirral High staff showing the importance of the facility.

Dragon Harald Fairhair completes British voyage

It is the largest reconstruction of a Viking ship ever built and it is touring the UK - peacefully. Named after a 9th Century Norwegian king, the Dragon Harald Fairhair wound up its two-week voyage in Wallasey, at the mouth of the River Mersey, where Vikings once sailed.

Andrew's partner Claire Upton: "I would like say to Andrew 'I miss you gorgeous, and I love you."

THE partner of Andrew Salter, the 38-year-old dad of two from Wallasey who died following an accident on the M53 last Sunday, paid tribute to him today saying: "He was a big man with an even bigger heart of gold." Andrew's fiancee Claire Upton said he was a loving and doting father to his two-year-old daughter Annie and ten-year-old son Andrew.

Future of Lyndale School to be decided tonight

PARENTS of pupils at a Wirral special needs school are hoping their summer of anguish will come to an end tonight as councillors decide whether the facility should be closed. A consultation into the closure of the Eastham school was launched after the authority announced it was "minded" to close Lyndale, citing a drop in pupil numbers and a change in Government funding.
