Partially sighted pensioner's model chair arch wins award

A PAINSTAKING re-creation of High Wycombe's original chair arch landed a partially sighted pensioner first prize in an art competition. Colin Shirley spent six months carefully crafting a replica of the arch that was erected to mark Queen Victoria's visit to the town in 1877.

Education conference to be held to address education attainment gap

The Bucks Minority Education Concern has organised the annual conference for parents at Cressex Community School in High Wycombe on September 27. BMEC was set up in 2011 to address how social disadvantage and children's underachievement affects families from black and minority ethnic communities disproportionately. But on further investigation they have also begun to address the gap between the success of all pupils from wealthier backgrounds and those from less affluent families.

Fall in crimes over school holidays, say neighbourhood officers

NEIGHBOURHOOD police in areas around High Wycombe have reported a drop in crimes over the school summer holidays - usually a busy period for officers tackling low level offences. Officers in Chepping Wye Valley, which covers Hazlemere, Flackwell Heath, Tylers Green and Loudwater, say there has been a 35 per cent drop in recorded crimes over the past four weeks.
