Newport's axed cabinet minister says post was 'a privilege'
GWENT lost its only remaining member of the Welsh Government's cabinet yesterday after John Griffiths was axed in a wide-ranging reshuffle by First Minister Carwyn Jones. Newport East AM Mr Griffiths was the minister for natural resources, culture and sport until yesterday.

OAP cut free from car after three vehicle crash
The crash involved a double-decker bus, a silver Hyundai and a blue Renault Megane on Holway Road, Holywell, just after 11.30am yesterday. A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 11.31am on Thursday to a road traffic collision involving a bus and two cars on Holway Road in Holywell.

North Wales Police hunt arsonists in Flintshire
Spate of blazes across the county including more than a dozen incidents in Deeside - mainly Connah's Quay and Shotton Officers believe the 'extremely dangerous and damaging crimes' are being carried out by youths and are appealing for information to help catch the culprits before someone is hurt. Over the past five weeks there have been more than a dozen incidents in Deeside, mainly in Shotton and Connah's Quay.

Flint councillors slam truckers for using lay-by as toilet
Truckers are using the lay-by on Northop Road in Flint as an overnight stop and are urinating and defecating Councillors in Flint have hit out against lorry drivers who are using a lay-by as a toilet, but frustrated truckers blame a lack of facilities across Flintshire and North Wales. At a meeting of Flint Town Council on Monday night councillors said they had received numerous complaints from residents that HGV drivers are urinating and defecating during night-time stays at the lay-by on Northop Road, opposite Bryn Edwin Residential Care Home.

Josie Millward, 16, from Buckley receives her Miss Teen Publicity Queen GB award from Miss Teen GB 2013 Brittany Hargreaves Josie Millward, 16, who has been backed by the Flintshire Chronicle, was one of 50 girls across the country competing for the Miss Teen GB title at The Globe in Blackpool last weekend. While the reigning Miss Teen Flintshire didn't come away with the top prize, Josie was crowned Miss Teen Publicity Queen GB at the glittering ceremony.

Campaigners against plans to build an incinerator in Deeside are calling for a judicial review into how Flintshire County Council dealt with the process, amid claims the incinerator could actually cause the county to recycle less of its waste.
Ewloe care home to close after inspections
Aston Hall Care Home in Ewloe has been owned and run by husband and wife team Peter and Lucy Sargent for 30 years, but will close on September 18. The Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales escalated enforcement action against the home earlier this month having issued two non-compliance notices following inspections in May and June.
