a Teenage driver has died after his car collided with a tree near West Auckland in County Durham.
The 18-year-old local man was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which took place on the A688 Staindrop Road at around 6.45pm on Friday, February 28. His passenger, a 16-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries and had to be freed from the blue Vauxhall Corsa by firefighters.
