Teenage pedestrian seriously injured in Keighley collision

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Keighley which seriously injured a 17-year-old girl pedestrian. At about 2.10pm on Saturday, a silver Audi A5 was travelling along Bradford Road towards Keighley, when it was in collision with a 17-year-old girl at the traffic lights by Sainsbury's petrol station.

Millions of pounds could be lost to Wetherby if the planning application for Spofforth Hill goes ahead, according to a town councillor. Jail for driver who caused death of teen college student

A man who caused a teenage college student's death by driving dangerously has been jailed for more than five years. Jamie May, 24, was sent to prison today by a judge at Leeds Crown Court over a crash in which Hannah Hunter, 16, of Havercroft, was killed.

Appeal after Heckmondwike taxi driver beaten up for his car in Birstall

Police are looking for a man in connection with an attack on a taxi driver who was robbed of his car at 12.15am on August 8. Another man, Matthew Wood, was jailed for five years, at Leeds Crown Court, for his role in the robbery and one count of theft from earlier that day. The driver was told to go to the junction of King's Hall and Bronte Road, in Birstall, where he was punched repeatedly in the head and pulled out of the car.

Wakefield and Pontefract jobs at risk as Phones 4u goes into administration

The firm said its stores - including those in the Ridings Shopping Centre and on Teall Way in Wakefield and on Market Place in Pontefract - would be closed today pending a decision by the administrators on whether the business can reopen for trading. The shock move came after network operator EE decided not to renew its current contract, leaving Phones 4U without any network partners following a decision by Vodafone to not renew its contract earlier this month.

RSPCA officers found animals being kept in squalor in Liversedge home

Officers visited the home of Jodie Louise McLoughlin, in Second Avenue, Liversedge, in January this year, where they found two dogs and a cat living in rooms covered in faeces. Andrew Davidson, prosecuting, said the 21-year-old's home was unsuitable for "animals or humans to live in" at Kirklees Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Man needed hospital treatment after house fire

A MAN required hospital treatment for smoke inhalation after a house fire in Brighouse in the early hours of Saturday morning. Crews from Brighouse and Elland were called to Brookfoot Lane at 4.08am, but the blaze, thought to have been started by a chip pan, was already out when they arrived.

'I came home to find my house was To Let'

A Mytholmroyd resident returned from visiting a friend's house to find a "To Let" sign stuck up outside his house. Andrew Halewood was only gone from his home at Cleveley Gardens for a couple of hours but got the shock of his life when he returned on the afternoon of September 2. It caused upset to his ten-year-old son who has learning difficulties and was left "absolutely distraught" at the thought he might be leaving his home, said Coun Halewood.

Chairman of the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority Coun Judith Hughes broke the ground at the site in Carlton Road last Friday. The station, which will merge the existing stations on Carlinghow Lane, Batley, and Huddersfield Road, Dewsbury, is expected to be operational by October 2015.

Parking charges removed

The controversial evening parking charges in Halifax town centre which led in part to a vote of no confidence in the former Labour cabinet were removed this week. In February, amendments were made to the council's budget to overturn the charges.
