On ABC 's new police procedural Motive , the question at the start of each episode is not who committed a crime, but why.

Don't get it twisted: just because ABC's Motive tells the audience who the killer is before they even show you the victim doesn't mean everything about the show isn't a procedural.

In the premiere episode, "Creeping Tom," when a well-liked, karaoke-singing high school science teacher is found murdered in his bedroom, a home invasion gone wrong doesn't feel like the right motive to Detectives Flynn and Vega.

I admit, I gave up on The Killing partway through the first season, and was relatively indifferent toward its cancellation and eventual un-cancellation at AMC over the last year.

It still rains a lot. But everything else has changed in the damp and deadly world of AMC's The Killing for season three.
