You might have read that the longtime soap opera, As the World Turns , is being canceled after 54 years.

Not a good year for soap operas. Three months ago CBS cancelled the pioneering soap opera "The Guiding Light." Today the network has cancelled "As The World Turns." The show has been on CBS TV since April 2, 1956.
