Today is January 7th. It is Laura Ingalls Wilder's birthday. Wilder, born in 1867 in the "Big Woods" of Wisconsin, was the author of Little House on the Prairie , among other novels.

We survived January's big snow and ice storm, and power outage, which at times felt like we were living in a modern-day version of Laura Ingalls Wilder's "The Long Winter." We covered our drafty windows with quilts, turned the living room couches into beds and slept in front of the gas fireplace.
