Gordon Ramsey Hunts Puffins in Iceland

After five years of what began as social smoking and ended with getting up in the night to smoke, it was time to say goodbye to cigarettes.

Puffins
Although I have always been a massive Gordon Ramsay fan, I understand that in Iceland they may well eat puffins, but over here they are protected, and by cooking and eating puffins and no doubt telling everyone how wonderful they are is only going to give some prize idiots the bright idea of trying it for themselves.....!!
As a member of the RSPB and having spent time on Skomer recently, these birds are fantastic, and to even think of eating one is thoroughly repulsive.
We are not short of food and do not have to resort to this type of stunt which he's obviously only doing for ratings. Wasn't he getting enough attention! I was angry about the veal calves and turned over everytime that item was on the show, but he has now going beyond the pail!

Gordon Ramsay is vile, and Channel 4 are dispicable for promoting this kind of stunt. I have complained to the channel before - a recent advert showed Ramsay cooking live eels - another endangered species - and another Ch4 programme, two sloanes going around killing things, had a trailer showing an animal beng shot in a welter of blood to a cheery fiesta soundtrack. Ramsay once boasted that he enjoyed the sound made by lobsters as he boiled them to death. Animal cruelty is becoming very fashionable with tv bosses as an easy way to generate publicity - viz this puffin story - and no-one seems brave enough to stop it. I hope the RSPB has the balls to inform all its members and -woo - maybe dare to suggest a boycott of all Ramsay's products and a protest outside the man's restaurant (if I lived in London I would be!).

Gordon Ramsey nearly died hunting puffins in Iceland - serves him right! Puffins revenge! As for killing and eating puffins being an Icelandic tradition - haven't you heard what happened on St Kilda? Puffins were hunted to extinction just because people wanted to eat them.

Biggi - grow up. People can disagree with hunting puffins without being 'terrorists'. Truly moronic.

I just watched the program and went to check if you could eat it in the UK, unfortunately you can not. I don't understand why people have a problem with learning about the culture of other places around the world, we seem to have this very 'middle England' attitude about the most stupid things. The show was simply presenting information that would be unaccessible to some people otherwise. Channel 4 has always been cutting edge and innovative, its what makes it the best channel on British television. If you have a problem with it, then hopefully there is someone who can come round to your house and teach you how to change the channel.

I have to agree. It seems hes showing off how fun catching an endagered bird can be. Just becuase we have thousands in britain dosent mean their abundant world wide. Iceland used to be the strong hold of puffins before everyone found out it was "tradition" to eat them now only Britain has large numbers and even then they are only in protected places like the farnes. I see how he would have to go all the way to icleand instead of the farne islands becuase people in britain dont want to kill endagered animals.
Whats next? He guts a panda? Mabye deep frying a condor?

Puffins are endangered species. Does it taste better if it is near extinction? Same as with Whales. It is no wonder Iceland is not member of any civilized countries. You should not allowed out from your little island. Is it because you are all so closely related. The piss is concentrating? Ramsay was one of my favourite cheffs but not anymore. By the way dogs and cats are domestic animals and not worse than eating a lamb in that sense. They are not endangered, I don't eat them but everyone is free to do so.

There is a reason that the UK has them under protection and for a international cooking star to support the killing of Puffins, by airing this episode Ch4 is being dismissive and mocking UK laws that have been put in action for good reason. By cooking Puffin, Ramsey pissing on all the hard work individuals have done for endangered animals all over the world, he is a ignorant beast that just wants press.

There is like 4 or 5 million of them on the island they were on, you kill a few and the millions left continue to breed. How this is "mocking" UK laws? Doesn't make any sense either as it didn't happen in the UK and they didn't condemn it, all they said was it tasted good, which it properly does. "Oh my, channel 4 just aired Die Hard, this is clearly mocking UK gun laws....." no.

Thank god channel 4 is going to ignore complaints that are going to be made so we can see more interesting culture from around the world.

now where can I find a cheap ticket to Iceland...

Ok I am not a vegetarian and I do not have a problem with eating animals, they are very tasty. I do however have a problem with Gordon catching and ripping apart a beautiful protected bird. I understand that these birds are a delicacy in Iceland and do they not also support whaling?! Well that says it all really doesn't it.
Anyway the point i'm trying to make is that Puffins are protected in the UK so Gordon should not be glamorising the art of sky fishing and butchering the birds on national prime time television. If he wants to do that sort of thing in his own time then thats fine with me but its not a very clever thing to show it off to the British masses. Yes am a supporter of the RSPB and I am a BTO bird ringer so I understand the importance of conservation for the overall health of our nations wildlife. Even though this programme upset me to the point where I was breaking down in tears I did laugh when the puffin bit his nose... ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaa!

I agree and i've also heard that Puffins don't taste very nice anyway so there's a reason why we eat chickens instead.

It's pathetic really, eating creatures just because they taste good. Mankind is supposed to be maturing into respect for the planet and it's inhabitants. Traditional Chinese medicine has pushed many species to the edge of extinction that were once abundant.
How about Ramsey cooking up a delicious Minke Whale or a scrumptious African bush meat Chimp hand? All international traditional dishes. Why stick to just Puffin? C'mon push out those boundaries!!! Powdered Rhino horn nibbles? Seal cub sandwiches? Peregrin pate? It's all puff(in)ed up machismo which a lot of insecure people enjoy to make themselves feel a little more powerful momentarily. The rats and insects will have the last laugh on us in the end.
