Five northern and northeastern provinces have been declared cold-spell disaster zones, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department chief said Thursday.

A cold spell is believed to have caused the death of a widow in Chon Buri and a man in Trat yesterday, while Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son have been declared disaster zones as temperatures plunge in the provinces.

Floods still prevail in 16 provinces, including three in the South, and the death toll nationwide stands at 666 with 3 missing, the Disaster Relief and Mitigation Department reported on Saturday.
