Suddenly, the longtime absence of any new nuclear power plants in the U.S. appears to be over, as more than a dozen companies have responded to the idea — publicized in the presidential campaign – that nuclear power is a way for the U.S. to become energy independent. Turkey pressing ahead with second nuclear tender

On October 9 Turkish Energy Minister Hilmi Guler predicted that the evaluation of the winning bid in Turkey’s first nuclear power plant tender at Akkuyu on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast would be completed by the end of October. He added that the government was currently working on the details of the contract to build a second nuclear power plant near the Black Sea port of Sinop, which he expected to be put out to tender by the end of the year.

Huaneng launches pebble bed nuclear demonstration project

China's Huaneng Group has launched a demonstration of its nuclear power project, at a plant in Shandong Province. Parties involved in the project signed agreements in Beijing on Tuesday. The HTR-PM project, which stands for ""High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor Pebble-bed Module"" is the most advanced nuclear reactor at the moment. It was entirely developed by Tsinghua University and is the first such plant with an installed capacity of 200 thousand kilowatts.
