Will the Sahara one day power Europe?

Full story: www.ngpowereu.com

The solar potential of Africa is widely known. The continent would have more than enough to satisfy the energy needs of every country within its borders, and could even have some left over.

Solar panels would scar the natural landscape. Environmentalists would not go for it.

This is the ultimate NIMBY project. Europe doesn't want these 'ugly' sites blighting their land and taking up real estate. So let's go to impoverished Africa, put in these sites and give the starving population a little sumin', sumin' to keep them happy. Unfortunately political upheaval will be the demise of the efficacy of Europe's energy plan.

Sand...scar the landscape and a sandstorm covers it overnight. This seems like a viable industry for "impoverished Africa". Maybe it could raise the populace out of poverty. I would imagine the solar collectors would require maintenance.

One of the problems the people who have been pushing this haven't figured out is how do you get the power to Europe. Another is that sand and dust which that area of Africa is infested with will scour the panels and cut production even more. Then they have to deal with transmission loss.

In all it isn't going to do as well as one nuclear reactor sitting next to Paris.

Daily Horoscope for November 21

Cancer

Strange dreams and desires of a sexual nature may disturb you this morning; rest assured that just because you dreamt it, you're not weird! Everyone dreams off-colour, ribald doozies on occasion, and no one has been locked up for it yet. If you analyse your dreams carefully, you'll find that they're often about things that seem to have nothing to do with the imagery you recall.
