I would like to tell you that the program in not fair. I was selected for the wind inspection. They came and told me that my windows needed better covering. I purchased after being told we would be getting the money for the repairs. We bought roll down shutters by a safe home contractor who did a really great job but then we were told after the fact the wind zone was changed to the homes in and near the water on the Gulf. I did not choose to live on the Gulf becuase of that reason but I do have a handicapped son who I protect with my life all his life. I purchase the shutters so he will never have to go to one of the shelter which are not recommended to the disabled since they are not prepared for the disable. I spent approx $6400.00 and had to take a loan out for the shutters becuase of the new wind zone. I feel that this is discrimation againist the people who were smart enough not to live on the water and I do not live in a 300,000 dollar home either. I live in a medium priced home fully handicapped accessible and dedicate my life to my son and his safety like parents are suppose to do.
I would hope I would never have to take and subject my handicapped son to a shelter ever. They do not have the medical staff or privacy to change a person who is adult. It is not so bad when a baby but an adult needs privacy.
I feel that I see this commerical for my safe homes and get sick everytime I see it becuase it is not for the lower class but the rich who own expensive homes and boats and want to be on the water. They should have to pay for the luxury not us to included they could porbably buy and sell most of us that were turned down for the program. They choose to live there and could afford to pay for the shutters on thier own not like us to took loans out to pay for them.
