Increased patient load strains Denver's ERs
Denver hospitals are seeing more emergency room patients since University of Colorado Hospital and The Children's Hospital moved to Aurora last year. Both hospitals, which are now at the Anschutz Medical Campus near I-225 and Colfax, handled thousands of ER patients a year when they were in Denver. They've also seen more patients at the new location.

Lawmakers Focus On More Preschool, Kindergarten
State lawmakers want to put tens of thousands of 4- and 5-year-olds in preschool and kindergarten next year under the school finance act.
The proposal (House Bill 1388) would increase per-pupil funding to $5,250 to keep up with inflation and population increases.
Lawmakers also want to allow 22,000 more 4- and 5-year-olds to enroll in preschool and kindergarten over six years.
Legislators also want to provide more money for residential programs, such as treatment facilities or other facilities licensed by the Department of Human Services for students with special needs, including severe learning or emotional disorders. Read more

CDOT On Track For Record Snow Removal Costs
The Colorado Department of Transportation has exhausted a fund set up to cover overruns in its budget for snow and ice removal this season.
It expects costs to reach a record $71 million by the time the season ends.
CDOT originally budgeted $43 million for snow and ice control this winter, but it had already spent $53 million through mid-March.
The department plowed 6 million miles of roads through mid-March and expects to plow 7.4 million before the season ends. Read more
