So the students are complaining because the subsidy
that the tax payers of California are paying so they
can go to school cheaper is shrinking and they might
have to actually pay somewhat closer to the actual costs.

Well, either that or they can convince their teachers
to take a pay decrease and have teachers spend their time actually teaching as opposed to doing "research" while having their grad students teach a number of the classes.
