Six-run second helps Japan advance to International Championship Game with 11-4 win

Japan advances to Saturday’s International Championship Game for the fourth time since 2001. Japan will take on the winner of the second International semi-final matchup between Mexico (3-0) and Venezuela (2-1), which will be held Thursday afternoon.

Former UW Huskies square off in US semi-finals

Timo Donahue, coach of the Waipi'o baseball team in the 11- to 12-year-old Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., will provide insights from youth baseball's oldest and most prestigious tournament. Doanahue played baseball for the Huskies, hit .366 and won a Pac-10 batting title in 1989 and played in the Cleveland Indians organization. Mill Creek manager Scott Mahlum attended UW at the same time as Donahue but didn't know him.

Curacao (1-1) to face Guam (1-1) in do-or-die game Tuesday night

Curacao broke open a 1-1 ballgame in the bottom of the second, when they scored six runs on four hits, including a grand slam by Profar. They would tack on six more in the third, getting a three-run homer from Profar that made it 11-1, a two-run blast from Tivon Faneyte that made it 13-1, and a solo shot from Hemsley Martha that closed out the scoring.

Mexico flexes its muscle

Emmanuel Rodriguez hit his own 315-foot shot in the second inning Monday at Volunteer Stadium, tying the approximate distance set by teammate Tomas Castillo the day before, as Matamoras finished pool play 3-0 with a 10-0, four-inning win over Yona, Guam.

Hawaii’s comeback sends Canyon Lake home winless

The Canyon Lake Little Little League All-Stars closed out their Little League World Series by giving undefeated Hawaii all it could handle Monday. But Keelen Obedoza’s homer in the fifth inning broke a 4-4 tie, carrying Waipio Little League to a 6-4 win over the Rapid City team.

South Dakota's Fierro makes history with big blast

In a weekend full of firsts for the Canyon Lake All-Stars, Cale Fierro added one more. Fierro became the first player from the state to hit a home run in the Little League World Series when he smacked a lead-off blast to left field to open the fifth inning.

Canyon Lake spends day away from field

For the Canyon Lake Little League All-Stars, Sunday was a day off from baseball. The game had consumed them for the better part of three weeks as the team progressed from city, state and regional baseball tournaments and advanced to a first-ever berth for a South Dakota team in the Little League World Series. But Sunday was a day to be kids.
