Lisa Fernandez, a 3-time Olympic champion and perhaps softball's signature star for more than a decade, has been left off the U.S. team's final 15-player roster for the Beijing Games.

Perhaps her layoff coupled with her age were to big a challenge to overcome in a comeback. There is however a bit of mystery about Coach Candrea. His pitching coach at AU, Nancy Evans, resigned and AU's top pitcher and last years NCAA Championship pitcher is off to a slow start without the presence of Nancy Evans. Taryne Mowatt's record is 13-6. The Olympic Team just lost to Virginia Tech.
