Police use tear gas to disperse students' protests in North Darfur state

September 14, 2014 Riot police in North Darfur capital, El-Fashir used tear gas and live ammunition to disperse high student demonstrators who took to the streets to protest against teachers' strike which entered its second week. Smoke billows from burning tyres as Sudanese demonstrators protest against rising prices near the main market of Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state, on July 31, 2012 Last week, more than 1,000 teachers went on strike over unpaid salary arrears since 2005.

South Darfur state coordinating with other states in the region to enhance security

September 12, 2014 The government of South Darfur state has revealed ongoing security coordination with other states in Darfur to protect commercial convoys and secure common borders. A Sudanese military tank is stationed near a Sudanese security facility in the city of Nyala, in the Darfur region, on July 4, 2013 Darfur, which is divided into 5 states, suffers from an 11-year armed conflict between the government and rebel groups as well as escalating tribal fighting which became a major cause for insecurity in the restive region.

Sudan: Hague Court Issues Darfur Arrest Warrant

Today, 11 September 2014, Trial Chamber IV of the International Criminal Court issued, by majority, an arrest warrant against Abdallah Banda Abakaer Nourain. The Chamber vacated the trial date previously scheduled to open on 18 November 2014 and directed the ICC Registry to transmit the new requests for arrest and surrender to any State, including the Sudan, on whose territory Mr Banda may be found.

Security services arrest nine teachers in North Darfur state

The National Intelligence and Security Services in North Darfur state has arrested nine teachers at the locality of Al-Fashir against the background of the high school teachers' strike which entered its fourth day. More than 1000 teachers went on strike over unpaid salary arrears since 2005.

ASP Mohd Zuhairi Zubir, 38, when relating a near-fatal incident said he and his team of peacekeepers were staring in the face of death when surrounded by rebels for about six hours.

Police post reopened in South Darfur's El Salam camp

The police post at El Salam camp for the displaced in South Darfur was reopened on Saturday, after a closure of eight months. The police post at El Salam camp, located south of Nyala, capital of South Darfur, was reopened after the El Salam camp population intended to organise a sit-in, in solidarity with the displaced in Kalma camp.

Hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver, is commonly caused by viral infection.
