Once again the NHC is demostrating their incompetence.(These are the same idiots also claim GW is NOT intensifying hurricanes, despite several peer reviewed publications to the contrary.)

Just 18 hours ago (Sept 1, 2am advisory) the NHC was predicting that "felix" whould take another 96 hours to reach hurricane status.

Guess what, 18 hours later it's already a hurricane. NHC you're doing a great job, NOT!!!!

Name the peer reviewed publications that claim global warming is intensifying hurricanes. To my limited knowledge the only one who claims this is Al Gore. In fact the scientific community has distanced themselves from this claim.

And then there is Francis(2004, Katrina(2005), Rita(2005), and Wilma(2005), storms that all demostrated a new level of hurricane intensity,(supersized eyewalls, >60Miles in diameter) not seen previously.

Many thanks for this link and the others. From them I found reference to the Great Hurricane Of 1780 which had slipped from my memory. Senior citizen with not much time left. The greatest hurricane [1780]since Columbus discovered America. Now my problem is why is the US Navy still using 86 degrees as the hottest sea water surface temperature when current satellite readings show 87 degrees in the Gulf? Has anybody gone out in a row boat to verify the 87 degree satellite reading.? How is the increase in water vapor concentration accounted for? Good thing I don't qualify as a "Peer". Just a technician who did air conditioning calculations for naval ships some 50 years ago. I think like I'm from Missouri, but once I speak you know it's Brooklyn. Well, now I have to find out why the Navy has not raised the sea water surface temperature for their design calculations. Maybe they have and my links are out of date. If not, the referenced publications require more work. Thanks again, you have given me hurricane intensity as an item to get educated on.

"Since all people of religious belief attribute natural events to "the will of god," I have to assume they also believe their god caused this hurricane and directed against those he wants punished."
Or, it could be that you are completely deluded as to what people of religious belief believe. Since people of scientific beliefs believe that all delusion is self delusion, and that self-delusion is insanity, you would have to conclude that you, pal, are nuts.

One problem with the news report is that Dean was in fact a category 4 and NOT a category 5. NOAA continues to be irresponsible in its hurricane reporting. They want to invent a new category...a category 6 (superduperluper). Wait and see....

Everyone knows it's coming, but there will always be stupid people that won't prepare and won't leave a dangerous area. Then they will wail for help afterward. Stupid is as stupid does.

The problem with quoting the scientific community is that its objectivity has been compromised. Since they get paid to find "problems" to study, courtesy of the taxpayer, it's no surprise that they find problems even when none may exist.

Scientific findings are like poll results these days. You get them to "prove" anything you want by asking selective questions and ignoring data that doesn't support the hypothesis.

Time Magazine has reported that Katrina was actually a weak CAT 2 when it flooded New Orleans. Our news media keeps reporting it as a Cat 5 which it might have been over the Gulf. I think the problem is with inaccurate high satellite readings over the Gulf vs. accurate land based readings. To go from a 5 to a 2 in such a short distance with no mountains just aint Kosher. I'm still researching hurricane intensity.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Taurus

There are powerful forces at work in a relationship today, and they'll have quite an impact on you. If you're with that special person in your life, don't be surprised if there's a lot of sexual tension between you that manifests as irritation and bad temper. You'll probably have a huge row and then have a very enjoyable time making it up.
