      <description><![CDATA[<p> The number of homes sold at sheriff's sale is on the rise in both Lehigh and Northampton counties, and the tide of foreclosures has spread to higher-priced houses in the suburbs.</p><p>The number of homes sold at sheriff's sales in Northampton County more than doubled to 99 properties during the first three months of the year, according to the county's sheriff department, which handles the sales.</p><p>In Lehigh County , 94 homes sold at sheriff's sale in January, February and March, nearly double the number in 2007. That's a turnaround from last year.       <description><![CDATA[<p> <a href="http://www.topix.com/us" class="xref">Democrats</a> captured the three available Easton City Council seats Tuesday, enabling the party to retain all five seats on council.</p><p>According to unofficial results from all 15 precincts, Elinor Warner was the top vote-getter with 1,936 votes, followed by Jeff Warren with 1,861 votes and incumbent Ken Brown with 1,770 votes.</p><p>Republicans Roger Ruggles, Bill Timmann and Peter Melan garnered 1,660, 897 and 888 votes, respectively.</p><p>Council has been solely Democratic since 2002.
