The severe winter is showing no signs of abating. MeteoA rologists extended yesterday the orange level alert for snowfalls and blizzard in eight south-eastern counties including the Capital until today.

Blizzard and snow paralysed Romania, closing 26 national roads and 80 county roads, and the motorways A1 Bucharest-Pitesti and A2 Bucharest-Lehliu. Mircea Ciumara, minister of finance, industry and commerce in the 1996-2000 Romanian Democratic Convention government died Friday night into Saturday morning, Mediafax reported sources with the National Peasant Christian and Democratic Party as saying.
