Nature-based Wicca misunderstood, practitioners say

Sheri Metcalf's house is pretty ordinary, for the most part. There's an entertainment center with a television tuned to HGTV and several DVDs on the shelf. Cozy chairs sit around the room along with a bookshelf and computer desk. Family photos adorn the walls. But there's also a shiny pentacle sitting on the old wooden cabinet in front of the picture window.

The Cross, Fish, Menorah, and Star of David as Divine Symbols

It grieves my heart when well-meaning people of faith condemn various Judeo-Christian symbols like the Cross, the Fish, the Menorah, and the Star of David as Pagan or occultic symbols. I say well-meaning because they have all been swayed by the misinformation on web sites and in books that claim that most of the symbols used by Jews and Christians today have a Pagan or occultic origin. ...

A day to celebrate

As a religious holiday, our Mother's Day is a non-starter. That's reasonable because today's version of Mother's Day was never intended to serve as a reminder of God or to celebrate a day of historical significance for any particular faith group. ...

Ancient pagans honoured motherhood with specific religious festivals in honour of the mothers of their gods or in honour of a mother-creator figure.

DVD Video Review

This fascinating, if slightly dated, trilogy of Canadian documentaries provides some interesting insight into Goddess worship from the times of pre-history to women's drumming circles of today.

Goddess Remembered is a 1989 feature that spans the globe while giving a perhaps over generalized review of ancient goddess worshiping practices.

The second documentary in this set, The Burning Times is probably the best all around piece and deals with the history of witchcraft.

1992's Full Circle covers a lot of material that was frankly already dealt with in the first documentary, but which is utilized here to further make the case that modern practitioners of goddess worship are helping to bring our planet back from the brink of patriarchal-based destruction.

Bejeweled Anglo-Saxon Burial Suggests Cult

In seventh century England, a woman's jewelry-draped body was laid out on a specially constructed bed and buried in a grave that formed the center of an Anglo-Saxon cemetery, according to British archaeologists ... she might have been a member of royalty who led a pagan cult at a time when Christianity was just starting to take root in the region.
