It figures that the Guardian would act like this is newsworthy. They most have decided to take a break from bashing Israel. The point is not if Senator Obama will win the Jewish vote, but by what margin.

Here is an abridged summary that should show you how established it is:

1st century - Genocide of the Jews by the Romans (‘First Jewish War’)

2nd century - Genocide of the Jews by the Romans (‘Diaspora Revolt’ and ‘Second Jewish War’)

4th century - Church father Ambrose encourages burning of synagogues so as to abolish Judaism.

5th century - Massacre of Jews in Alexandria.

13th century - Forced conversions of Jews all over Europe.

He might not if he doesn't articulate his vision more clearly. Designating James Baker III as his point man for the Middle East is no way to win Jewish votes. Obama may not be my friend, but the jury's still out on the Arizona senator as well.

It's only a slur if it's used as a pejorative. I call myself a Jew.

American jews tend to vote democratic, but if Lieberman campaigns in south FL for McCain, then many older jewish people might feel like voting for McCain. McCain will try to win states like FL and Ohio, and Obama will probably win NY anyway and a big percentage of American jews live in NY.
