'Why I created Islamic super heroes'

Full story: news.bbc.co.uk

The creator of a bestselling comic designed to show the world the tolerant and peaceful face of Islam has written an open letter to his young sons explaining how the project grew out of 9/11. In the letter, written for the BBC News website, Kuwaiti psychologist Dr Naif al Mutawa, says his superheroes - inspired by the Koran and known as THE 99 - were designed to "take back Islam" from militants who had taken it hostage ...

"THE 99 references the 99 attributes of Allah - generosity, mercy, wisdom and dozens of others not used to describe Islam in the media when you were growing up ..."

Was it the fault of "the media" that I didn't see any of these attributes on 9-11?

A comic designed to show the world the tolerant and peaceful face of Islam?
Now that is funny.

I wonder how Big Mo feels about having another super heroe?

I would think that would mess with his megalomania.

By Islam standards 9/11 was indeed an injustice. But 9/11 was the consequence of past US injustice. What happened on 9-11 is less than 1% or even 1/1000 of US worldwide crimes.

There is a verse in the Qur'an that warns those who are unjust that God has the power to unleash other unjust people against them.

The ongoing US injustice in Pakistan and Afghanistan and elsewhere is a most fertile land for future retaliation.

The real question is whether the US can survive without being a predator with thousands of military bases around the world.

A suicide bomber?

Precisely.... As children in the West we worship our super-hero's and personally I knelt at the alter of 'Spiderman'
Surely an 'islamic super-hero' could cause a muslim child to stray from the path of pious righteousness.

Blaming the victim rationalizations don't even work for rape, much less mass murder.

BTW, how many foreign nationals also died in the Twin Towers? Do you have a rationale for their deaths as well?

Upon a careful reread I noticed:
"I would go back to the very sources from which others took violent and hateful messages and offer messages of tolerance and peace in their place."

So what was the source of the violent and hateful messages?

Of course, the Quran.

The holy book of the religion of peace.

I'm a Muslim but I must recognize that though you critics of Islam are systematic, you try to show intellectual honesty. I’m convinced that your critics when justified are related to certain groups of Muslim people rather than to Islam per se. Otherwise I would just ignore you like I ignore those who insult prophets... the Lord is aware of their mischief.

This being said, there is no rationale to blind revenge except the rationale of a poorly conducted talion law. The Qur'an again warns people to beware a punishment that won't fall upon those who did wrong alone. If you live in an unjust country you might be a victim of retaliation though you were a good fellow. It's like being in a ship, it's a collective responsibility.

Muslims need to bring extremists back to reason, but you should first pressure your establishment to respect other people's views, property and freedoms : doing that extremists won't even exist at first place.

I was really impressed.

I thought FINALLY when I read "Muslims need to bring extremists back to reason".

But then, as usual, there was the kicker "but you should first ……………….".

Which brings me back to the same sad place.

We have no responsibility to take and action till you take action.

And my hopes faded back into there same old place of despair.

I'm ready to throw candles of hope in the well of your despair. Actually President Obama already understood that he needed to make the first step and he did. His problem is that some US lobbies who share your own "irresponsible" views are resisting his policy and trying to destabilize him and jeopardize his sound approach.

Tell me why Palastinians chose to send rockets to Israel when Gaza was returned? Wasn't getting the Jews out of Gaza a step in the right direction?

What did they want? All the Jews to come in and make dinner for them, share their savings and give them arms? And then say what else do you want?

Extremists will always be found on the tail ends of any bell curve, but by defintion they are always unreasonable; that's why they're called "extremists".

I will NEVER respect the man named mohammed who married a 6 yr old and then **** her when she was 9 sorry to me thats a PERVERT not a man of God. God does NOT send grown men to marry little 6 yr olds and if you think he does then you do NOT know God at all. God loves children THEY ARE NOT SEX OBJECTS and that is what aisha was to mohammed. Mohammed was 54 he had NOTHING in common with a 6 yr old. She was NOT a GROWN woman and she was NOT developed at age 9. She was still growing INTERNALLY and EXTERNALLY
