Full story: washingtontimes.com

from washingtimes:

"So the next place to watch in terms of who'll-be-next-gay-bishop sweepstakes, the place to watch is the Diocese of Los Angeles in December ... Meanwhile, membership in the Episcopal Church continues to spiral downward. The latest numbers say it's 2 million and the rate things are going, it will drop below that next year."

What a disgrace to Christianity, to believe a woman, and a lesbian on top of that, could be an acceptable Christian, and then be approved as elder of the one true God in heaven, it is truly blasphemy of the holy spirit.

Well, the haters win again. How God must be shaking His head in disbelief. When will we all follow His commandment to love Him and our neighbors? Especially when those who pretend to be the closest to God are the most hateful of them all. As a gay Christian, I shudder to think I would ever be linked with these people. Luckily, they wouldn't have me even if I wanted them to. Thank GOD!!!

There is nothing here to win.

This is NOT a contest, but a lose-lose proposition for TEC and everyone involved.

It does no good to believe you are a Christian, and then not follow what Jesus taught. Anyone can say they are Christian, that does not make you one.
People wear crosses on their necks, then beat their wives, or cheat on their husbands, so wearing a cross does not make you a Christian either. When a person goes to church on Sunday they believe they are Christian, then they watch violence or immorality on t.v. or the internet.
Especially religion that claims to be Christian, and these religions or churches allow as members those who are deliberate sinners against God's word as members in good standing. Jesus taught his followers to love God, and his word, to try to be obedient to his commandment to love our neighbor, but also to avoid and not allow deliberate disobedient ones our association, because it would damage our relationship with God.

(John 3:34-36). . .For the one whom God sent forth speaks the sayings of God, for he does not give the spirit by measure. 35 The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. 36 He that exercises faith in the Son has everlasting life; he that disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.

So if I love the Lord my God with all my heart, mind and soul, love my neighbor as myself, don't murder, covet, lie, steal, etc., then I should be covered. Whew!! Thanks for that.

There were other candidates on the ballot. Maybe these other candidates had better suited gifts to lead this diocese. You made it about hate with your response; the article says nothing about Perry performing poorly because she is a lesbian.

The article states:

“Ms. Perry was always a dark horse, I thought, as Mr. Prior is vice president of the Episcopal House of Deputies, an exalted title in the Episcopal Church. When Ms. Perry ran for bishop of California (San Francisco) in 2006, she also did poorly.”

She did poorly in San Francisco election as well. San Fran is hardly a bastion of “hate” towards homosexuals.

Maybe you should take a step back and realize she may be lacking the spiritual gifts needed to lead a diocese and that just being a lesbian priest are not qualifications enough to sail through confirmation.

It says much about you and your thought process to label everyone who disagrees with your stance a "hater."

Not EVERYONE gets to be Bishop. That is why it is so much more important that Gene was elected.

Not everyone is called to be a priest or a bishop. I would hope Ms. Perry isn't just trying to make a political statement with her candidacy. This would be absolutely the wrong reason to apply.

Let me try this again. Not everyone gets to be BISHOP.

It is not a political statement. The best person for the job was chosen. god's hand guided them to make their decision. I respect it. Just as much as I respect the people of New Hampshire who made their decision.

Last year the Diosece of Southern Virginia selected a Bishop and our former Dean was a candidate. I can not imagine a man who is more suited to be a Bishop and yet he was not selected. Edward Harrison is now in San Diego at another Church.

NOT EVERYONE gets to be Bishop. This is about as much about her sexuality as it is about waht kind of car she drives. NONE NADA NOTHING !!!

Gene Robinson is NOT the first GAY BISHOP. He is the first openly gay Bishop.

Naw, we just appointed the best person for the job. There wasn't any hate involved. Minnesota has always been open and advocating for LGBT people, and will continue to be. I actually think the appointment will fare better for us as gay people than appointing Perry would have.
