Ex-Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Irving Fryar and his mother are heading to trial after being indicted for allegedly running a mortgage scam leading to the theft of $690,000. Burlington County Superior Court Judge Jeanne T. Covert set a trial date of Feb. 3 after Fryar and Allene McGhee rejected plea offers Tuesday that would have required them to admit to charges of theft by deception and to serve five years and three years, respectively, in state prison. After treading water in 2014, New Jersey home prices will get a boost from low mortgage rates and an improving job market this year, appraiser Jeffrey Otteau predicted Tuesday. Otteau, an East Brunswick appraiser whose forecasts are widely followed in the real estate industry, expects home values to rise about 3.5 percent this year, compared with an anemic 1.4 percent in 2014. What one question does the public want to ask real estate agents? It tends to be either macro - how's the market? - or micro - what's my house worth? The macro question can generally be answered with data, but the question of home valuation is a little tougher, partly because the homeowner generally has a price in mind. Any homeowner who has decided to sell has probably researched their home online and viewed a few AVMs , but for the homeowner, their price often has little to do with what a computer has said their home is worth - the value can feel more emotional than clinical.
