While CoreLogic says February is typically a month in which distressed sales post a seasonal decline, real-estate owned and short sales this past February were the lowest for that month since 2008 . As we near the vote to raise the sales tax to fund our abysmal roads, we've heard this question come up quite a bit these last few months: "Why couldn't the Legislature just do the job they were elected to do instead of passing responsibility off to the voters?" We haven't given our legislators the chance to do their jobs because we've cauterized a deep-seeded distrust into statutes and amendments to the state constitution. Potholes are just one concrete example of how Michigan's culture of distrust in politics has hurt our government's ability to function. Comment?
